Zotero is a free, easy-to-use tool to help you collect. It keeps track of your bibliographic information as well as said informations associated web links and files. You can sync your literature database and pdfs. BibDesk is an organizational software created to help you edit and manage your bibliography. This works also for books on Amazon, Google books, etc. It will keep track of both the bibliographic information and the associated files or web links for you. If you click that little button the paper will automatically be added to your library with all meta-data and a pdf if available. Bibliography Web search Description Use BibDesk to edit and manage your bibliography. With the browser connector plugins you will have a little button in your address bar on most journal sites. But, Zotero convinced me with two features. However, they now offer a standalone version, and it works perfectly fine in Chrome. Zotero originally came as a Firefox plugin. I could probably add the ability to convert the BibTeX to a formatted reference for any of the methods, but for now I'd suggest using BibDesk.I'm using Zotero together with AutoZotBib for automatic bibtex export, and the modified bibtex translator that is offered on the same page. It's not something I ever use, but glad to hear its useful to you. The formatted reference feature was something I just added on at the end, because crossref happened to have an API for it. This is maybe not the most ideal usage for your setup because it requires an extra step, but it would be the easiest and most reliable way forward. But the benefit for your question, is that in BibDesk's preferences you can set the output to "apalike" and then you can select the publications you want and copy them as rich text. If you use BibDesk, you won't have to keep re-downloading references for ones you already used, and if you fix up a reference (sometimes data is not exactly correct) your corrections will be retained for future papers.
